Departments

The courses in our nine academic departments are a fusion of traditional rigor and educational innovation. Whether you take Beginning Arabic or Chinese V in the world languages department, Multivariable Calculus in the mathematics department, or a Java programming course in our computer science department, you’ll be challenged, inspired, and sometimes blown away.

 

But don’t mistake “departments” for “silos.” Our faculty takes a special pleasure in mixing things up in new and unexpected ways. Some classes are even team-taught by teachers from different departments. Our Genetics course is a collaboration between our science department and our religious studies department. The history and social science department joined forces with the English department, which has been visiting New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina to help repair homes damages by the storm, to create Humans on the Edge: Natural Disasters and the Human Response. Exciting and nuanced, these classes encourage you to explore new ideas the way the world’s leading thinkers do–collaboratively and from every possible angle.
