
The following alpine ski team members will represent NMH at the New England Prep School Alpine Skiing Class A Championships next Wednesday, February 10:
Girls' team: Cassie Cohen '13, Rachel Kagan '11, Abby Philbrick '13, Lilly Philbrick '13, Hannah Schurman '13.
Boys' team: Kris Lawless '11, Pat Joyce '12, Ed Barthelemy '11, William Schurman '10, Tory Quinn '11
NMH is hosting the championship event at Berkshire East, and the skiers would love to have supporters out on the hill, cheering them on! The races begin at 9:30 am and run until about 3:00 pm. The boys have the top ranked team in their division of the Mt. Institute Ski League, with a record of 27-1, while the girls are tied for the top spot in the girls' varsity division of the MISL and have a record of 24-2. NMH faces the best teams from throughout New England in the annual event.
According to the NEPSAC Alpine Skiing website, the races will be held on Upper and Lower Competition, a section of Berkshire East that is clearly visible from the base lodge. The GS races will run from the top, with a 224m vertical drop, and the slalom will begin midway, with a 101m vertical drop. The GS is about 45-55 seconds, with approximately 30 gates, while the slalom is typically 32-38 seconds with up to 40 gates.
The first run of the boys' GS and girls' SL will begin at 9:30 am and will run simultaneously, followed by a second run with no reset or delays. The girls' GS and boys' SL will begin at 12:30 pm, followed by a second run. An awards ceremony will be held right after the races, or at about 3 pm.
Participating teams will include: Avon (boys only), Belmont Hill (boys only), Cardigan Mt. (boys only), Deerfield, Eaglebrook (boys only), Gould, Holderness, Kents Hill, KUA, New Hampton, Noble & Greenough, Northfield Mount Hermon, Proctor, St. Paul 's, and Vermont.
